MACON, GA—Mrs. Evelyn P. Harris, 83, went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 14, in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery at 11 o’clock. The Rev. Sam Lamback and Rev. Cile Mitchell will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5511 Bloomfield Road, Macon, GA 31206. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Blair House for their loving care and making her last years happy. The family would also like to thank Vista Care Hospice for their care.
Mrs. Harris was born in Phoenix, AZ to the late John and Lelia Glenn Petty. She grew up in San Diego, CA, where she graduated and also attended the University of California. Mrs. Harris moved to the Macon area in 1953, and had lived in Jones County since the 50’s. She was active in church choirs, loving to sing. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Eastern Star and was a member at Gray United Methodist Church. She was very creative in arts and crafts, often sewing for her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Harris, and her brother, Henry Petty.
Surviving Mrs. Harris are her sister, Jan Thompson of El Cajon, CA; son, Lonnie Harris of Jones County; daughter, Cile Mitchell of Macon; grandchildren, Lin (Dottie) Chambers of Forsyth, Katie (Danny) Bird of Forest, VA, Mandy (Brian) O’Connor of Jones County, Chris (Chad) Robinette of Jones County.
