

George W. Finison, 84, was transferred to his eternal life on Sunday, March 1, 2015. A Celebration of his Life will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with full Military Honors and the Rev. Cile Mitchell officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5511 Bloomfield Road, Macon GA 31206 or Gideon’s International.
George was born in Macon, GA to the late Ernest Hayward (Jack) and Sarah Burden Finison. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Dorothy Jean Finison and his daughter, Jean Finison Leon. He graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in 1948, received a Bachelor of Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1954 and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University in 1967. He was a member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years and was involved in all aspects of the church. Mr. Finison was very active in the Gideon’s International.
George had over fifty combined years of military and civil service. His military career began with ROTC at Lanier, and included active duty serving the Army Signal Corp during the Korean Conflict in 1954. After his discharge in 1956, he served in the Army Reserve. His civilian vocation was from 1956-1959 was employment at General Electric Company, Utica, NY and then began his civil service career at Robins AFB as an Electronic Engineer, where he supported Aircraft and Missile Divisions and retired in 1989. He also served in the Air National Guard from 1960 to 1982, achieving the position of Squadron Commander, 202nd Electronic Engineering Squadron, retiring as Full Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Elizabeth Finison of Macon and four grandchildren, Margaret, Benjamin, Nicolas, and Laurence Leon of Warner Robins, and his cousin, Ann Smith of Macon.
