Ila Zelma Whitlock

Ila Zelma Whitlock, age 95, died September 27, 2014 surrounded by family. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was born in Pitts, GA, but lived most of her life in Macon, GA. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Thomaston Road Church of Christ. Zelma retired from the Crippled Children’s Department of the State of GA in 1980. She was the daughter of Wesley H. and Mattie Lou Whittle and the wife of the late James Arthur Whitlock. Being the oldest of 9 children, Zelma became the matriarch of the Whittle family. She is the mother of Gina Cole Whitlock of Dallas, TX and DeeDee Rice of Sarasota, FL.

Her family and her church meant everything to Zelma. She loved entertaining and having a good time with family and friends. She and her late husband, Arthur, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as well as abroad.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Alzheimer Foundation, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
