Jimmy was born and raised in Lizella Georgia having attended Redding Elementary School in Lizella, Lanier Junior High and Lanier Senior High Schools in Macon. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He grew up helping on the family farm, Stokes Dairy, then transitioned to growing beef cattle, he continued until his retirement. Work was his middle name. He always said, “Living simple and working hard is what I enjoy!” He loved the country and the country-way of life, all things of nature, hunting and fishing were his favorite sports, with many trophy deer as proof. Venison was shared with friends and The Food Bank.
Jimmy was an only child, although over the years, some of his very best friends and cousins were just like siblings to him. Jimmy’s hunting and fishing buddy, Bob Lewis, built a front porch on the Stokes house several years ago and since the accident, Jimmy has spent countless hours sitting in his rocking chair and waving at everyone who passed by.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, James and Maggie Stokes, and his son, Randall Stokes all of Lizella, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Nina Stokes, children, Rhonda (Dennis) Alexander, Marlys Oliver, Tami (Mark) Daniels, and daughter-in-love, Sonia (Warren) Lewis, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Many relatives and friends also survive him and will miss him dearly.
