

Joan Pruett Courtney, age 85, of Macon, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023. A private graveside service for Joan will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Riverside Cemetery (North Gate Section), 1301 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA 31201. Rev. Tina Cansler Clark will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joan's memory may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210 where she was a charter member.
Mrs. Courtney was born January 11, 1938 the daughter of the late Joel Fleming Pruett and Geraldine Reeves Pruett and was the widow of John Richard "Dick" Garrett, Mortimer Chinkers, and Philip Lanier Courtney, Jr. She was a lifelong resident of Macon, a graduate of A. L. Miller Senior High School, attended Mercer University for two years, where she was a member and past President of Alpha Iota Chapter of Phi Mu Sorority. Mrs. Courtney was former President of the Macon Jaycettes - installed in 1960 along with her husband, Dick Garrett, as the first husband and wife to be installed together as President of the Macon Jaycees and Macon Jaycettes respectively.
Mrs. Courtney was also past President of Ingoli Garden Club, past Treasurer of Mary Hammond Washington DAR Junior Group. During this time she was listed in "Who's Who in the South and Southwest". She was employed for ten years by the Macon/Bibb County Tax Assessors Office and eleven years as Appointment Secretary at Urological Professional Association.
She was Reunion Chairman for the Miller/Lanier High School Class of 1955 for seven Reunions along with a dedicated committee of her classmates. This same group of classmates has met for a monthly luncheon for over 50 years. She was a volunteer worker at the "Museum of Aviation" at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins.
Mrs. Courtney is survived by her daughters, Tracy Garrett Bradley of Macon and Dana Garrett Dotherow of Macon; step-children, Col. Robert S. (Karen) Bobinski, Ann Bobinski (Bernie) Connell, Cindy Courtney (Wes) Colter; grandchildren, Justin Adams (Hollie) Bradley and Richard Garrett Dotherow; step-grandchildren, Joseph (Brenna) Bobinski, William Colter, Rachel Connell, Patrick Connell, and Mary Connell; great-grandchildren, Clara Rose Bradley, Payne Adams Bradley, and Rosalie Ashley Dotherow.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and residents of Bolingreen Nursing Home for their love and support.
