John Wayne Dobson, affectionately known to family as Wayne and to many as "Duke," passed away at the age of 75 on October 6, 2026. Born on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1951, Wayne was a lifelong resident of Macon, Georgia, whose deep roots blossomed into a life rich with intellect, history, and devotion. Though he was a talented writer, musician, gardener, and re-enactor, his most cherished roles in life were Daddy, Poppy, Husband, and a deeply loyal brother and Uncle.
Wayne dedicated much of his life to preserving local history, serving proudly as an archivist and tour guide at the historic Cannonball House Museum. He shared his knowledge through living history, co-authoring a historical children's book, and co-authoring the historical novel Macon to Manassas. His passion for the past extended to the field as a dedicated re-enactor for the 16th Georgia Infantry, Co. G "The Jackson Rifles," and as an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Another profound passion was music; a gifted musician, Wayne shared his talent by playing with the church and sharing the stage with many well-known musicians during his earlier life. Above all, Wayne’s life was anchored by his deep faith; he was a devoted member of the Macon Evangelistic Church for most of his life.
Wayne was preceded in death and is now reunited with his parents, John Wilber Dobson and Vivian Beckworth Dobson, his sister, Diane Beck, and his brother-in-law, Richard Beck.
His legacy of love, faith, and creativity is carried on by his devoted spouse, Brenda Dobson; his sister, Valeria Elliott (Ed); and his children, Sean Tajirian (Rayleen), Louise Sifford (Mark), William Dobson, Jenny Gunn (Ryan), Jessie Whitehead (Joel), and Kellie Morgan (James). He also lives in the hearts of his adoring grandchildren, Alanna Allen, Landon Allen, Adyson Walker, Colton Sifford, and Maddie Morgan, and his great-grandchild, Crue Allen.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on October 12, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Macon Evangelistic Church. A Celebration of His Life will follow immediately at the church at 2:00 pm. Following the service, Wayne will be laid to rest at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery (With a special ceremony). Arrangements are being handled by Snow's Funerals and Cremations at Macon Memorial Park.
While flowers are greatly appreciated, memorial donations may also be made to Macon Evangelistic Church and/or the Cannonball House in Wayne's honor.
