John Allen Harris, 86, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 am until the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, 31201, or PruittHealth Hospice, 6060 Lakeside Commons Drive, Macon, 31210.
Mr. Harris was born in Macon, to the late Jake and Susie Carswell Harris. He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Holly and sons, John Buford Harris, Bobby Lane Jernigan and Joseph Edward Jernigan. Mr. Harris served in the United States Navy and was self-employed as a Contractor. He attended church at the Salvation Army and was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Harris was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved fishing and farming.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Green Harris; daughter, Pamela (Eddie) Miller; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and siblings, Shirley (Larry) Morgan and Clayton Harris.
