Johnny Douglas “Doug” Ruffin, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, December 16, 2018. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Lance Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 pm until the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 390 Pierce Avenue, Macon, 31204 or the charity of choice.
Doug was born in Macon to the late Benjamin Franklin and Jewel Rickenbaker Ruffin and was preceded in death by his siblings, Doris Ruffin, Cecil Ruffin and Franklin Ruffin. He served in the United States Army, First Calvary Division, during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the Army of Occupation (Japan) National Defense Service Medal. Doug was a retired electrician and a member of the IBEW. He was a longtime member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and was an avid outdoorsman. Doug was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Walker Ruffin; son, Jay Douglas Ruffin (Brenda); grandson, Brian Ems; brother, Leonard Ruffin; and sister, Willene Coggins (Joe).
