She was born in Macon, Georgia on February 13, 1929, to the late John William and Sallie Thomas Edwards. Preceding Josephine in death were her parents, husband of 30 years, R.C. Jones, Sr., brothers: John Wesley, Robert C., and Malcolm Edwards; sisters: Annie Allen, Lillian Molton, and Maxine English; and eldest son, Richard C. Jones, Jr.
In the early 1940s before her children came along, Josephine worked for Happ Brothers, a garment factory in Macon, GA and in later life a short while for S&S Cafeteria on US 80 in Macon. She was a straight shooter in her speech and manner and had a very long productive life. Josephine was happy to share her knowledge and experiences about life, cooking, or gardening. She was a member of the DAV Ladies Auxiliary and before their closing was a regular at the DAV week-end dances, loving to dress up in her western outfits and cowboy boots. There she made friends forming close bonds, finding happiness in the companionship, music, and dancing. Josephine had a green thumb, loved gardening and the great outdoors, taking after her father who was a farmer. Even in her early 90s you could always find her working outside in the yard or down at her pond where she regularly walked the land keeping her sharp and in good shape.
Left to cherish her memory are her remaining four children: daughter, B.J. Moreau of Milledgeville, GA and sons: Robert Jones of Milledgeville, GA, Gene Jones of Gordon, GA and Russell (Nancy) Jones of Lizella, GA. Brothers: Charles Edwards of Haddock, GA and Kenneth Edwards of Macon, GA. Grandchildren: Richard C. (Michelle) Jones, III of Byron, GA, Kellea (Tony) Jiles of Gray, GA, Barbara (Frank) Hill of Powersville, GA, Michael G. (Carin) Jones, Jr. of Sandersville, GA, Leigh (Robbie) Crammer of Orange Park, FL, Wesley (Britney) Jones of Hastings, FL, Mark Jones of Lizella, GA, Eric (Brandi) Jones of Macon, GA; 15 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor her life will be held in the chapel of Snow's Funerals and Cremations at Macon Memorial Park on December 30, 2024 at 2pm. The family would like to invite friends to join them one hour prior to services for visitation. Immediately following, Mrs. Jones will be laid to rest by her husband’s side in the Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
