Juanita B. Krysalka

A celebration of the life of Juanita Brown Krysalka will be Sunday, August 24, at 3:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Chapel, with Dr. Jake Hall and Dr. Jim Bruner officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation with the family will be one hour before services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highland Hills Baptist Church in her memory.

Juanita Mercedes Brown Krysalka was born in Macon, GA on December 24, 1925, the only daughter of Marguerite Washington and William Ralph Brown, both deceased. Her brothers, Ralph Washington Brown and Larry Eugene Brown, are also deceased. Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Rev. Stephen Krysalka, sons Stephen Krysalka, Jr., Macon, Richard (Susan) Krysalka, Jacksonville, FL, and daughter Surelle Krysalka (David W.) Pinkston, Macon.

She also leaves 8 grandchildren: Dee (Michael) Allen, Stephanie (Mark) Rongey, Roger Krysalka, Brandi (Tom) Brown, Kris (Sarah) Krysalka, Niki (Josh) Boggs, Pamela Pinkston, John David Pinkston, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Juanita Mercedes Brown Krysalka went to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 21, 2014. She lived a full, rich life in which she was devoted to her Lord, His church, her family and her community. Her thoughts were always of others and finding meaningful ways to help them.

She served with her husband as pastor's wife for 53 years. She taught all age levels in Sunday School, Church Training, and Vacation Bible School. She sang in the choir, vocal ensembles, and solos. She was a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church.

She earned her six year education degree from Mercer University and taught second grade in Bibb County schools for 25 years. Upon her retirement, she founded the Grandparents and Retirees Excited About Tutoring (GREAT) program and enjoyed volunteering in Bibb schools, teaching reading, creative writing, and promoting history and the arts.

Juanita was devoted to her community and served through the Fort Hawkins School Reunion, Historic Macon, Bibb Retired Teachers Association, Slavic Association of Middle Georgia, Friendship Force, Elder Hostel, Jim Dandies, Highlanders, Cherry Blossom Festival and Labor Day Road Race, among many other organizations.

Juanita and Steve traveled extensively throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States, visiting historic locations and family.

Rev. Krysalka, when you were at Houston Heights you and Mrs. Krysalka were such a wonderful part of my mother's family, Vera & Richard Mann. I remember Mrs. Krysalka coming to visit Richard's mother, Agnes Sapp, who was blind. My deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of this sweet lady.
