Margaret Stewart Nelson

Margaret Stewart Nelson, 99, peacefully passed away on the morning of April 30, 2026. She was cherished by all her family and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 4, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in Shurlington Methodist Church. Burial will be private in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.

Margaret was born June 7, 1926, in Macon, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Edward Stewart and Irma Parkerson Stewart, her son Stewart Devon Nelson, her daughter Pattie Fugate, grandson, Mark Fugate, Siblings, James Stewart and Carolyn Stewart Oliver.

She was a dedicated member of the Shurlington Methodist Church. She grew up in Barnesville and graduated from the Macon Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She retired from the Medical Center of Central Georgia after 35 years as an Operating Room Nursing Supervisor and a Materials Coordinator.

She was a loyal member of the Order of the Eastern Star #345. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and in her later years tending to her plants and being in the outdoors.

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie McCarty (Butch) and Kathie Bilow (Jessie); grandchildren, Tiffanie Goff (Gary), Jennifer McCarty (Billy), Melissa Melton (Jonathan), Shannon Gassett, Chris Gassett (Kristy), Stewart Rowell (Caitlin); great grandchildren, Mark, Tyler, Emily, Troy, Madelyn, Audrey, Shelby, and Jace.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Snows at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
