Marie Patat Odom passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2:00pm in the Mausoleum Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Loran Smith officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00pm until the service in the Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Lupus Foundation or the donor’s favorite charity.
Mrs. Odom, the baby and only daughter of four children, was born in Macon to the late James Prince Patat, Sr. and Aldora Thomas Patat. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty two years, Marvin “Ben” Odom; brothers, Chauncey, Prince “Bubba” and Donald Patat; son, Phil Odom; and granddaughter, Melissa Beattie. She was a homemaker, raising her five children and cared for her father most of her adult life. Mrs. Odom began working for GA Bank in her 50’s and retired from SunTrust Bank at the age of 70, after ten years of service. She was a member of Bass United Methodist Church and honorary member of Pine Ridge Garden Club.
Survivors include her children, Pam (Tracy) Gates, Vicki (Bobby) Akin, David (Jenny) Odom, and Jack (Christine) Odom, ten grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, with one on the way.
The family wants to thank her wonderful caregivers, Kathy Johnson, Angie Suttles and Joyce Mason for their loving care and compassion.
