Marta Ramona González Valdés, 85, died on Sunday, September 9, 2018. She was born on August 31st, 1933 in Cardenas, Cuba. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. She graduated from the University of Havana and taught school for 42 years. She began teaching elementary school in Cuba. She married Cristóbal Valdés in 1956. They had to leave the country because of Communist takeover in 1960. She is survived by her two children, Jorge, Maureen (Ben), and one grandson, Isaac.
Martha earned a Ph.D in education at Havana University in 1960 and a Master of Arts degree at the University of Georgia in 1982. Martha taught in Bibb County elementary schools for several years and spent the majority of her teaching career, from 1967-1992, at Warner Robins High School in Warner Robins, Ga. She lived in Ft. Valley, Ga. and continued to teach part time at Peach County High School in Ft. Valley. Ga. until 2001. She loved her students and took great pride in their accomplishments. She was awarded STAR teacher and received numerous teaching accolades into the Houston County Teacher Hall of Fame in Perry, Ga. She had a very strong allegiance to the United States and cherished the freedom the USA allowed her to enjoy.
