Mary K. Walker

Mary Emma Knight Walker, 91, beloved wife and mother, ended her earthly journey on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Mrs. Walker passed peacefully surrounded by her children and other loved ones at The Phoenix in Tucker, GA.

Born on May 14, 1933, to the late Frank and Ruth Knight of Flowery Branch, GA, she was the second of four daughters. Mrs. Walker graduated from Rabun Gap-Nacoochee High School and Young Harris College.

While working in Atlanta as a young woman, she met GC Walker, to whom she was married until his death in 2017. Mary and GC, living in Macon, GA had six children. Mrs. Walker devoted most of her life to raising her children. However, she also taught school briefly early in her marriage. She was an accomplished singer and pianist, often sharing her musical gifts with her church. Additionally, she was noted for her skills as a seamstress, keeping her girls beautifully dressed in her hand-made garments. She also was a very talented ceramics artist, having operated her own studio for a number of years.

Mrs. Walker loved life, her Lord, her family, and was blessed with a strong sense of humor. She, in turn, was deeply loved by her family, and numerous friends. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruth Knight; her husband, GC Walker; her son, Gregory Charles Walker; her infant daughter, Janet Marie Walker; her sister, Frances Knight Roberts; and her sister, Vicki Melody Knight.

Survivors include her daughter Carolyn Walker Shepherd (David); daughter Marilyn Walker Grisard (Bill); daughter Barbara Shepherd (Carl), son Wayne Walker; grandchildren Michael Shepherd, Mary Grisard, Jean Shepherd Brown, Lauren Shepherd Little, Isabella Walker and great grandsons Baxter Brown and Jonathan Brown; sister, Jacqueline Knight Townley; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Walker’s life will be celebrated by services on January 9, 2025, at the Snow's at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home in Macon, GA. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm with services immediately following at 2:00. Interment will be at Macon Memorial Park cemetery.
