Maxine Matthews Barker Keoughan, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 6, 2023. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Christ with the Rev. Julie Long and Rev. David Matthews officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Christ, 511 High Place, Macon GA 31201.
Maxine was born in Tifton, Georgia to the late Thomas Homer and Bessie Walters Matthews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Kent Keoughan and by her best friend of seventy-three years, Mary Louise Carithers and her two daughters. Maxine was a member of First Baptist Church of Christ where she served as a Deacon. She was retired from the U.S. District Court where she was Deputy Clerk. Maxine and Bob served with CASA as a child advocate for children in court cases. She enjoyed reading and going to yard sales in her free time. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth M. Davis of Aiken, children, Laura Johnston of Hortense, Steve (Joyce) Barker of Warner Robins, Paul R. (Cathy) Barker of Perry, Karen R. (John) Boylan of Warner Robins, David (Bonnie) Forsyth, step-children, Robin Pospishil of Savannah, Martin Keoughan of Jacksonville, Theresa (Paul) Burrows of Baldock, Hertfordshire, Bernadette (Bryan) Fish of Jacksonville, seventeen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and Marsha and Melanie Carithers.
