Nancy was born in Barnesville, Georgia to the late Clay Augustus Lane and Annie Kate Newton Lane. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Kenneth E. White, sister, Sarah Ann Lane Fuss and brother, Clay A. Lane Jr. She graduated from Milner High School in Milner, Georgia and moved to Macon in 1958 and attended Mercer University and Macon Hospital of Nursing. Married in 1960 to Kenneth E. White for sixty wonderful years. She was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and served on the Catholic Inter-Parochial School Board, and the Holy Spirit Parish Board several years. She was an active member for over forty years in the Council of Catholic Women where she served in several positions on the Parish, Deanery, and Diocesan level. She received the Gartland award for church and community service given by the Catholic Diocese of Savannah. She was active in Girl Scouting for fifteen years and enjoyed several years serving with the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival Queen and Princess Pageant. She received an outstanding community service award from the City of Macon for her work with the Cherry Blossom Festival. She and her husband spent many Christmas days serving Christmas dinner to the homeless at shelters in Macon. Mrs. White also volunteered at Family Advancement Ministries. She looked forward to her regular canasta games. She enjoyed any activity, which involved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading and traveling and retired after over eighteen rewarding years as office manager for Charles L. Ridley, III, M.D.
Nancy loved to travel, especially on cruises with her family. She and Ken loved to visit their favorite cities of Charleston, Savannah, and St. Augustine. She loved flowers, reading, dancing, canasta, and anything Elvis. Nancy loved to organize weddings, parties, receptions and dinners. She enjoyed her service to her church and the Council of Catholic Women on every level. The holidays were always special at her house and there was always room for extra guests. At Christmas, her house truly radiated Christmas. Her husband, Ken, eventually had to ask the grandchildren to help bring in all the boxes of decorations. At Easter, there was prizes for everyone, not just the winners at the egg hunt. She dearly loved the role of “Nana” and she lived it to the fullest. Nancy would always say that Ken was “The Love of Her Life”.
She is survived by her children; Kenneth E. White, Jr. (Theresa) of Macon, Gary B. White (Jennifer) of Lizella, Darrell L. White (Alice) of Macon, Keith E. White (Michelle) of Gray, Wendy W. Hutchens (Todd) of Lakeland, FL, Janet W. Mills of Forsyth, Sandra W. Durrence (Jeff) of Macon, Kathryn W. Ely (Roger) of Macon, Karen W. Cosey (John) of Macon, Sharon W.
