OBITUARY

Penny Crumley Anderson

December 24, 1959November 30, 2019

Penny Anderson went home to live with her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 30, 2019. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, December 7, at 1:00 pm at Northway Church to celebrate her life and God’s goodness. Visitation and an ice cream social will follow.

Penny was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Loran Crumley and Joyce Crumley, but grew up in Marietta and Alpharetta, Georgia. After she was married, she lived in Macon and Charlotte, NC serving as a helpmate to her husband and a mother to her children. She was the perfect pastor’s wife supporting and enhancing her husband’s ministry while also looking for ways to make things better or with more creativity. For all who knew Penny, she lived life to the fullest each and every day. Penny was one of those rare individuals that made life fun in everything she did. As a result, others always loved to be around her. She was gifted in many different ways. Whether it was as a Bible study leader, a fitness instructor, or through interior design, she sought to use her gifts to make other people’s lives richer and happier. So many people have commented on how she enriched their life for the better.

Over the last 16 years of her life, she battled cancer on three different occasions. In each case, she took on the challenge with grace, dignity, and determination and with a fiercely strong faith in God. Most of the time, no one would have ever guessed she was fighting such a battle. Her life verse became Romans 12:12, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” She was always joyful, tried hard to be patient, and never lost faith in God no matter how difficult circumstances became. Her life became an inspiration to so many others in the process. May we all be “Penny-strong.”

Penny is survived by her husband of 37 years, Phil, her two children, Candy Anderson Brown (Jeff) of Macon, Ga. and Caleb Anderson (Elizabeth) of Colorado Springs, Co., her mother, Joyce Brown Crumley, brother, Paul Crumley (Elizabeth), two grandchildren, and four nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Northway Church, 5915 Zebulon Rd., Macon, Ga. 31210 or to Caring Solutions, 1044 Washington Ave, Suite 104, Macon, Ga. 31201.

I’ve know Penny since High School. Penny always had such a kind soul. She was beautiful on the inside and out. I’m going to miss Penny with all my heart. I’m so saddened I won’t be able to see her beautiful smile. She always lightened up a room when she walked in. RIP beautiful girl and always know you were loved by many.

I graduated with Penny in 1978 from Milton High School. I wasn’t her close friend but she always made you feel like her friend. I admired her from afar and wanted to be like her. Beautiful, kind and generous. God bless and keep you Penny. ❤️

Am saddened by your loss but you will have beautiful memories. She was beautiful both inside and out. Will miss her smiling face as a greeter or whatever she did.

To Phil, Candy and Caleb,
I will never forget Penny, your Mom! Just to be around her filled my heart with joy! I had many aerobic classes with her. She inspired our class to exercise and always shared a short devotional and Bible verse with us! I remember the time she shared Psalm 46: 10, Be Still and Know that I am God. I always think of Penny when I read it and have it displayed in my home. I always think of Penny because I knew how hard it was for her to “be still”. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love to all! Jane and Bob Carpenter

I am so sorry to hear about Penny’s passing away. My parents adored her. My father was able to stay in touch with her when she was his water aerobics instructor at the fitness center.
She will be sorely missed. Your family will be in my prayers. As a dear friend once said, “Memories help sand away the rough edges of awful.”

I had the pleasure of meeting Penny at the Wellness Center. She was one of the Silver Sneakers fitness instructors. She would teach a swimming class, then rush to the gym to lead the seniors for 45 minutes of exercise. She always had a smile, was full of energy, took time to chat with anyone who stopped her at the gym. She was a cheerful lady and was dearly missed after she stopped teaching. May the Anderson family know that Penny was loved and now she is home with her Lord and Savior. With Deepest Sympathy.

Penny was His Light, Love, and Joy! The very exuberant living of her life reminded me and others of Heaven's hope and God's abiding Presence. She encouraged and inspired me, like so many others. Just one example: When we taught fitness together at FBC Charlotte, she encouraged me to attend a Pilates workshop because she thought I'd be good at it. Reluctantly, I did, and she was right. Pilates has been my favorite way to bless others with health, wellness, and inspiration. The Adcocks are thankful for the privilege of having shared life with Penny, and all the Andersons. You all have been missed.

I first met Penny when I was in youth group at VBC when Phil was the youth minister. She was also my 8th grade Sunday school teacher. I remember fondly how she taught on topics that were so pertinent to middle school girls and what an impact she made in my life at that time. When I taught middle schools girls SS a few years back, I modeled my class after hers. Her vibrant personality and love for Jesus and everyone else exuded from her presence. I know she is rejoicing in the presence of her Father right now.

Mrs. Penny will be missed. I am thankful and blessed she took me under her wing when I started greeting, reminding me that I will do just fine (I was a nervous wreck the first time I served because I didn't know anyone and she said it will be fine). She took the time to get to know me and ask me all these questions. She would talk about AB and Andi Lou. She would ask about my little one (who is the same age as AB). We talked about the paddle boards at the Wellness Center and she would encourage me to go try it, that it would be fun. Her personality and her grace were contagious. Mr. Phil, Candy, and the rest of your family will be in our prayers in the days, weeks, months, and years to come!
