Perry Lee Haralson, 91 of Bolingbroke Georgia died at home on September 11, 2021. He was born in Spencer, Oklahoma on February 22, 1930 and moved to Macon at an early age where he met the love of his life Mary Howard. He worked at the Payne City Textile mill for several years where, according to him he was “the fastest left-handed doffer they had”. He then served our country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, helping rebuild Germany following World War II. Upon returning from his service to our country he went to work for Armstrong World Industries in Macon until his retirement in 1992 and would proudly tell anyone who would listen that he made the ceiling tiles above their head!. Perry was well known throughout the Middle Georgia area for his whittling and carved figures, many which are on display at local businesses and establishments. These include turtles, owls, chickens, fish and any number of other items. Perry was past president of the Middle Georgia Art Association. He had articles written about him by Ed Grismore in the Macon Telegraph and Vickie Smith in the Monroe County Reporter who dubbed him “The Whittleman of Bolingbroke”. He was honored in 2020 by being chosen “Citizen of the year for Monroe County District 3. Perry was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bolingbroke and loved his church, serving as a deacon for several terms. Prior to Mt. Zion he was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in South Macon. He was also a Gideon, visiting prisons and jails to help spread the word of God and distribute bibles to all who needed them.
Perry was preceded in death by his parents and stepparents Lonnie and Francis Haralson and Ray and Clara Finney, beloved wife Mary and brothers Lonnie and Frank. Perry is survived by his sisters Florence Goff and Rayann Merchant, son Lee (Lynn) of Macon, daughters Laura Kurish (Jim) of Juliette, Mary Whitehead (Bruce) of Gray and Julie Gaddis (Donnie) of Juliette, grandchildren Christine Rigsby, Danielle Spears, Jennifer Christenberry, Christopher Kurish, Caitlyn Mark, Kelly Osborne, Joel, Charles and Matthew Whitehead, numerous great grandchildren, brother-in-law Ted Lisenby and numerous nieces and nephews..
The family would like to thank his doctors Arnold Conforti, Brad Summerall, Roberta Andrews and their staffs and especially Pine Pointe Atrium Navicent Health Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 16, 2021 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Andy Oxford will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Mt.
