Ruth Hudson Jones Hartley Uhl of Lizella, GA passed away at Magnolia Hospice in Macon, GA on January 17, 2022. Visitation will be held at Macon Memorial Park Chapel on January 22, 2022 at 1:00 pm until service time. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 22 at 2:00 pm at Macon Memorial Park Chapel with Reverend Jay Reppert officiating. Interment will be at Lizella Baptist Church Cemetery following the service. Due to COVID, all attendees are asked to wear a mask and follow CDC guidelines.
Ruth was born to the late Edgar Nowell and Thelma Cherry Hudson on March 3, 1930. She attended A.L. Miller High School and retired from Southern Bell after thirty-two years.
Ruth was very active throughout her long life enjoying gardening, square dancing, water skiing, and cooking. She was very famous for her pound cakes, 9 layer fresh coconut cakes and banana pudding.
Ruth married Frank Jones and they lived in Macon for over twenty-five years. They had three children Deborah, Donna, and Benny. After their divorce, Ruth met and married Thomas Hartley. They lived in Byron for twenty-five years until Tom’s death.
Ruth enjoyed travelling with her best friend, Ruth Bryant. They traveled throughout the US and Canada. After moving from Byron to Lizella, Ruth became a member of Lizella United Methodist Church and was involved in many activities with her Sunday School Class. Ruth met Chuck Uhl at Lizella Methodist Church and they were married in 2005. Unfortunately, Chuck passed away in 2007. Also remembering great friends and neighbors, Sue and Sid Bryant during the “Greenbriar Years” with fond memories of many lake trips and late night card playing.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Deborah C. Jones and Donna Jones Mercer; grandchildren, James Anthony Self, Cherie Carr (Lane), and Chris Mercer; great grandchildren, Daisy Colquitt, Chasity Self, Benton Mercer, and Benjamin Carr; brother, Emory Hudson (Barbara); devoted son-in-law, Glenn Mercer; and her faithful rescue dog, Charley. She was predeceased by her son, Benjamin "Benny" Franklin Jones III and her great grandson, Collin Glenn Mercer.
Much love and gratitude to the tireless caregivers who lovingly tended to Ruth during the past two years, Lula Williams, Nelly Mason, Carole Patrick, Lisa Johnson, Mary Foster, Elouise Davis, Mabel Moore, Tiandra Nelson, and “Cat” Jackson.
The family requests donations be made to Lizella United Methodist Church or a charity of choice in Ruth’s honor.
