Shirley James Smith, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 13, 2026. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Wilson officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be private in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Forest Hills Church, 1217 Forest Hills Road, Macon GA 31204.
Shirley was born in Bowie, MD to the late Robert F. and Evelyn Mills James. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Smith, Sr. and her brother, Vernon James. Shirley was a devoted member of Forest Hills Church for forty years, where she was active in Sunday School and sang in the choir. She worked for Dr. Edsel Davis as a receptionist for several years. Shirley was a member of the “Heart of Georgia Corvair Club” and enjoyed quilting. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and sister.
She is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” Smith (Melanie Savage) of Forsyth, daughter, Catherine Lynn Smith of Macon, two grandchildren, Gwen (Don) Ward and Matthew Smith, and her four-legged cat, Sophie.
