Veatrice Hammonds Garrett

Veatrice Hammonds Garrett, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 25, 2023. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Duncan officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Options, 486 New St., Macon GA 31201.

Veatrice was born in Macon, Georgia to the late John Ernest and Gertrude Roper Hammonds, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert O. Garrett, Sr. and her grandson, Danny Mimbs, brothers, J.E. Hammonds, Clyde Hammonds and Lee Hammonds, daughter-in-law, Chae Garrett and two son-in-laws, Tommy Blalock and Chris Waters. Veatrice was retired from Lifeway Christian Bookstore. She was a faithful and active member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Veatrice loved reading her Bible, coloring, word search puzzles, baking and gardening. She was a devoted and loving mother, Nanny, great Nanny, sister and aunt.

She is survived by children, Vickie (Ronnie) Rich of East Bend, NC, Karen Waters of Jesup, Linda (Ronnie) Herndon of Macon, Robert Garrett of Sugar Hill, Ernie (Jill) Garrett of Savannah, Lorraine Garrett of Macon, sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, brother, William Clayton of Lake Sinclair and several nieces and nephews.
