Vernon A. Johnson, 71 of Gray died Monday morning. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Forrester and the Rev. Bob Wilson will officiate with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1-2 PM Thursday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family suggest donations be made to The Parkinson Disease Foundation, 858 High Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.
Mr. Johnson was born in Tifton and had lived in Macon most of his life. He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother; John and Jewel Johnson and by his mother; Ola Mae McCorvy Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of Log Cabin Baptist Church and was retired from Elliott Machine Shop. He was an avid woodworker, specializing in walking canes that he would carve and give to people in need of a cane.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife; Rebecca Johnson of Gray, 3 sons; Alan (Angela) Johnson of Perry, James (Stacey) Johnson of Macon and John (Misty) Johnson of Gray, 8 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
