Virginia was born in Canton, Georgia, to the late Lloyd “Doc” and Mae Elrod Manous. She was the younger sister of the late Donald Manous.
In 1963, Virginia married the love of her life, Earl Aldridge of Macon, Georgia. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and adventure. Throughout their years together, Virginia and Earl traveled extensively, cruising and visiting 14 countries and 37 states.
Virginia began her career in 1971 as Administrative Assistant to the Administrator of Middle Georgia Hospital. She was an active member of Professional Secretaries International, now known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals. When the hospital was acquired by Coliseum Hospital in 1998, Virginia transitioned with it and continued her career there until her retirement in 2014.
Virginia was wonderfully creative and always had a project underway. Whether crafting, decorating, sewing, or baking, she found joy in creating beautiful things and spreading beauty wherever she went. She was also an avid football fan, enthusiastically cheering on the Auburn Tigers and Atlanta Falcons every fall weekend. When spring arrived, she looked forward to going to the Masters and planning her annual Derby party. Virginia loved music and dancing and never missed the opportunity to go to an Elvis Presley concert even camping out for tickets with her friends.
She was a member of Woodland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she loved singing in the choir. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Social Sorority in Macon.
Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Earl; her daughters, Cindy Ingram (Michael) of Wilson, North Carolina, and Dawn Aldridge (Adam Brooks) of Macon; and her beloved granddaughter, Olivia of Washington, D.C.
The family is forever grateful to Frances “Lou” Jackson for the love, friendship, and care she gave Virginia over the past several years. They also extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Memory Care Center at Alexander IV for their compassion, kindness, and care during Virginia’s final months.
Her warmth, creativity, fashion style, and love for her family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
