

FORT VALLEY – Wayne “Biff” George Tillis, 60, died Friday, April 16, 2011 in Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2011 at First Evangelical Church with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Tim Long will officiate. The family will meet friends from 1 p.m. to service time on Friday at the church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Joshua Watkins Memorial Endowment Scholarship Fund, University of North Florida, 1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
Mr. Tillis was born in Gainesville, FL and grew up in Jacksonville. He was a 1972 graduate of Mercer University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. Tillis earned his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1978 from the Walter F. George School of Law and served with the U. S. Navy. Mr. Tillis served as Clerk under Judge C. Cloud Morgan before becoming Chief Assistant District Attorney with the Macon Judicial Circuit and serving nearly thirty-five years until his retirement in December, 2010. He was a member of the State Bar of Georgia, a member of the Macon Bar Association, a member of the Peach-Crawford County Bar Association and was nominated for Assistant District Attorney of the Year in 1988. Mr. Tillis was preceded in death by his nephew, Cpl, Joshua Watkins, USMC.
Survivors include his daughter whom he adored and for whom he lived and breathed, Ashli M. Tillis (Matthew) Wilds of Juliette; his fiancée of thirteen and a half years and the love of his life, Marilyn Huntley of Fort Valley; his mother, Gail Tillis of Jacksonville, FL; his father, George (Muriel) Tillis of Gordon; his brother, David (Judy) Tillis of St. Augustine, FL; his sister, Amy Vazquez of Jacksonville, FL; his niece, Austin Tillis of St. Augustine, FL; his nephew, Griffin Tillis of St. Augustine, FL; his stepdaughter, Brandi (Scott) Stiglitz; numerous stepbrothers and stepsisters and their families of Gordon.
