Wiley C. Baxter, 92, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville FL 32256 or donor’s favorite charity.
Mr. Baxter was born in Louisville, AL to the late Guy and Belle Murdock Baxter. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of seventy one years, Mary “Dout” H. Baxter. He served in the United States Army and was a receipt of a “Purple Heart”. Mr. Baxter was a member of Cherokee Heights United Methodist Church. “Dout and Wiley traveled and attended many Auburn Tiger Football Games. He was the inspiration for a character in the comic strip, B.C. Wiley was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his sons, Wiley L. “Herk” (Sylvia) Baxter of Warner Robins, GA, Henry G. (Karen) Baxter of Lynchburg, VA, daughter, Suzie (Larry) Kensinger of Chattanooga, TN, six grandchildren, Michael L. (Tina) Baxter, Joseph L. (Kim) Baxter, Traci (Russ) Chesser, Aaron (Megan) Sneary, Amy Baxter, and Andrew (Rebecca) Baxter, twelve great grandchildren, three sisters, Myra Boyter of Montgomery, AL, Peggy Baxter of Auburn, AL and Annie Rush of Montgomery, AL and several nieces and nephews.
