

William “Bill” Milledge Smith, 76 passed away at home following an extended illness on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 7, in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Dr. Shannon Back and Rev. Chris Minton officiating with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday night from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's Camp, Macon West Crawford, P.O. Box 28665, Macon, Georgia 31221 or an organization of their choice.
Bill was born in Statesboro, Georgia to the late Milledge Therman and Eva Mae Tankersley Smith, and was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kathryn “Kate” Smith; three sisters, Dorothy Jones of Savannah, Georgia; Jean Fail of Statesboro, Georgia; and Betty McCullough of Deland, Florida and one brother, Jake Smith of Macon, Georgia. He retired after 39 successful years from Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance and Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company as Agency Manager serving Bibb County Farm Bureau. He earned the professional designation of LUTCF as well as many other Company Awards. Bill was a member of Lizella Baptist Church, the John Henry Clance Sunday School Class, served as a Yokefellow and also on many committees.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vonice Weitman Smith of Macon, Georgia and three sons, William Jeffrey Smith (Tammy) of Castle Rock, Colorado; Colonel Michael Wayne Smith (Margaret) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and Brian Keith Smith (Jennie) of Gray, Georgia; six grandchildren, Haley Elizabeth Smith and William Jackson Smith of Castle Rock, Colorado; Cadet William Milledge Smith II of West Point, New York; Luke Thomas Smith of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and Samuel Brian Smith and Ava Brooke Dixon of Gray, Georgia; his very special niece, Sherry Smith of Statesboro, Georgia; two sisters, Ann Martin of Altamonte Springs, Florida and Jo Ellen Wilson of St. Petersburg, Florida; and his loving pug and companion, Brutus.
