William “Bill” Franklin Lober, 75, after a hard-fought battle with cancer, Bill passed bravely into the arms of our Lord, while cared for at home by his wife of 40 years and his son Gary. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Noon at North Macon Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Hunter Stevenson officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at North Macon Presbyterian Church from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Bill was born in Macon, Georgia to the late William Newton and Mary Gladys Walker Lober. Bill graduated from Lanier high school in 1968 and was a member of the ROTC. He attended Owens Technical College in Ohio, studying business & marketing.
Bill was a "jack of all trades" and was gifted to have many talents. He was a manager at Winn-Dixie, sold insurance, hospital security guard, worked on a surveying crew, was a mechanic for foreign and domestic vehicles, did body work on cars. He was a printer at Minuteman Press for many years as well as lawn mower repair and gun restoring. He was very involved with his father at Lober & Sons iron pins and stakes business. His most enjoyable job was helping with his son's forestry parts business.
Bill's grandfather opened the first Harley Davidson dealership in Macon. Therefore, he had a lifelong interest in motorcycles. He owned, rebuilt and rode them with pride. Bill was a member of Wohilin Masonic Lodge for over 40 years and served as Master in 1991. He devoted countless hours to serve others through this organization. He was also a member of the Eagles Club of Macon. He was a race car enthusiast, watching on TV or live in the stands with friends. He is especially fond of his restored Torino, that he took to the drag strip in the 90's. He loved playing games especially Mexican Train and UNO. He enjoyed hikes in nature, watching space launches, swimming in the ocean and shell collecting on the beach. He loved walking and playing kick ball with our dog, Lacey.
Bill was a devoted husband and was happy doing anything, as long as it was with Becky "his angel". We vacationed throughout the USA, especially with friends & family in Toledo Ohio and Port Charlotte Florida. We collected hundreds of beautiful memories. He LOVED to worship and fellowship at North Macon Presbyterian Church. He cherished his church friends and called them family. He LOVED his sons and grandchildren beyond measure and spent as much time with them as possible. He LOVED to gather with family for holidays and special occasions, in particular with Kerry & Janie White. Most importantly he loved the Lord and served faithfully.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca S. Lober (Married October 27, 1984) his children: William Gary Lober (Jennifer) and Stephen Franklin Lober; grandchildren: Hannah Grace Johnson, Joshua Michael Johnson, William David Lober, his siblings: Mary Lober Donaldson (deceased), Delpha Lober Horne (deceased) Anthony Newton Lober.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Pastor Hunter Stevenson, Pastor Bob Brunson and Pastor David Todd for ministering to him during his illness. Thanks also to our many friends for their prayers, love and support during this difficult time. Many thanks to Hospice Nurse Tabatha Goodson, for her gentle guidance. A heartfelt thanks to Bill's ex-wife, Kay Allen, for her loving devotion to our family.
