Brandon was born in the Bronx, New York on October 5, 1954, to his late parents George Haven Durar, Jr. and Jean Becker Durar. Brandon was raised on the Jersey shore and was a long-time resident of Manahawkin, New Jersey.
Brandon was married to his best friend Barbara Durar (nee Twibill) and was the father to his dear children John and Marie. Brandon was predeceased by his brother George Haven III and his sisters Deana and Daralyn.
He will be missed by all his family members as well as nearly everyone who worked with him during his marine engineering career. Brandon’s career started at Almon A. Johnson in 1980, as a designer and draftsman. What followed was a 45-year career that would leave JonRie winches on tugboats in virtually every US port, on US Navy salvage vessels, dredges and workboats throughout the world. He rose through the ranks at Almon Johnson from designer to chief engineer to general manager, working with a hands-on philosophy that never left him. In 2000, Brandon saw an opportunity and named his new company Jonrie Intertech after his children, John and Marie, as he set out to build something dedicated entirely to the tug industry.
Brandon had an insatiable enthusiasm for auto racing, particularly NASCAR, dirt racing and Formula 1, the latter which he enjoyed discussing with his daughter, Marie.
If possible, please consider offering your respect during the wake services on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ.
