Carol was born and raised in Sheedshead Bay, Brooklyn, by her parents Thomas and Catherine Dalton. She is the youngest of five sisters. As a child she enjoyed swimming and dancing, and that feeling of freedom remained a part of who she was throughout her life.
As a young adult Carol worked as a legal secretary at Long Island University, along with tending bar. She soon later found her true calling as a devoted wife and mother. She was a tremendous homemaker whose door was always open to anyone and everyone.
In June of 1999, Carol and Charles moved their family to Manahawkin, New Jersey where she turned a new house into a loving home. The door remained open and once again the home was filled with new friends who became family; one of her many gifts. Her kindness and welcoming spirit touched countless lives.
She was predeceased by her first born son Jerry, parents Thomas and Catherine, along with three of her sisters; Matilda, Catherine, and Anne.
Carol is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years Charles G. Smith, her children Caroline, Sean and Brian, her sister Patricia Bonanza, as well as 7 grandchildren and many more great grandchildren.
Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew her, the loving heart, open door, and the family she created wherever she went, who will remain her lasting legacy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday August 13th, 2026, from 10-11AM at Saint Mary of the Pines Parish in Manahawkin, NJ. A mass will follow, along with a repast.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory may be made to the St Jude's Childrens Hospital or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
