Eugene J. Hall Jr., 80, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully at home in the wee hours on Saturday July 18, 2026. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Gene spent most of his formative years living in Neptune, NJ where he graduated class of 1963 at Neptune high school. After a number of years in NJ towns, Gene was transferred to Liberty, MO and then Gladstone, MO. Upon returning to NJ in 1999 they resided in Fanwood, NJ before settling down in Manahawkin in 2006.
Gene enjoyed a 32 year career at Ford Motor Co working his way up from assembly line to Material Handling Supervisor. But I think he enjoyed retirement even more.
Gene lived an active lifestyle pursuing his passions with gusto. He was an avid dragster owner/driver and always kept up his NHRA membership. He enjoyed staying in the racecar game, later on with Danny Rowe and made it to every race he could. Then he turned from land to sea and enjoyed fast boats for many years! Golf never left his line of vision though. Always itching to hit those little balls in the hole, he was thrilled to actually get a hole in one award from the Somerset County Park Commission while working at Warrenbrook Golf Course. When he relocated to Manahawkin he went to work at Ocean Acres Golf Course for the next 20 years. He loved his golf course jobs and the many friends he grew to love on and off the course. He became a member of The Raiders and was waiting impatiently to resume play after his triple bypass operation over the spring. He was hoping to start playing again next week, but his weakened heart had other plans.
Reverting back to his love of fast cars, Gene was an active member of the Beach Bums Corvette Club for the past 18 years. He developed wonderful lifelong friends there, who even accepted his beloved shih tzu mix dog Barney as their mascot.
But his greatest passion was his love for his family. They may have been separated by a thousand miles at times, but they were always kept closely guarded in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents Eugene Sr. and Helen Hall Smalley, stepfather Richard Smalley , former spouse Marie, stepdaughter Susan Apgar, and granddaughter Maggie Apgar.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years Sandra, children Kevin Hall, James Hall and wife Heather, Michelle Myers and husband Chris, and David Hall, stepsons John Heilman Jr. and wife Tara, and David Heilman and wife Emily, beloved grandchildren Jameson, Hudson, Greyson, Lawson, Presley, Dyer, Spencer, Elaina, Hunter, Molly, Drew, and Cooper, a brother Tim and wife Lisa, and sister Debbie Curto and husband Joseph, and former spouses Toni and Robin. Gene was further blessed with a myriad of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday July 27, 2026 from 4-8pm at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home in Manahawkin. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gene’s honor to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society or one of your own choosing.
