James “Jim” Anthony Kelly, age 58, died on April 2nd, 2020 from complications of COVID-19. Jim, formerly of Fair Lawn, NJ, had lived in the Beach Haven West community of Manahawkin, NJ for the past 28 years. He worked as a Lead Aircraft Maintenance Technician for United Airlines and Continental Airlines at Newark Liberty International Airport for the past 33 years. Jim is survived by his two sisters Margaret “Peggy” Jennings (Kelly) and her husband, Daniel of Oak Ridge, NJ and Patricia Kelly of Hamburg, NJ, his two nieces, Megan O’Connor of West Milford, NJ and Maureen Salzer (O’Connor) and her husband Tim Salzer of Clifton, NJ. He is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Margaret Kelly, and his brother Gerard Kelly, all of Fair Lawn, NJ.

Known to many as “Uncle Jimmy,” he opened his home to all and loved taking trips on his boat to one his favorite places, Barnegat Light to see “Old Barney”. He was the most reliable and caring son, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. His family, friends and neighbors are certain there was nothing he couldn’t fix. When he wasn’t working on airplanes, he spent his time working on cars, his boat, his house and anything his family and friends needed. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, loved Long Beach Island, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Due to the current pandemic, a memorial service will be planned by his family at a later date.

I have known Jim as a coworker since 1987. I always enjoyed communicating with him about our airplane issues throughout the years and I can just tell by the tone of his voice how severe a problem was! He would always say “I NEED A SWAP!” Which means to get a another aircraft to fly our passengers 🙂. You will be missed. Rest In Peace buddy.

I worked with Jim for many years at Newark Airport. His demeanor was always nice even during stressful times. Jim had a healthy crop of hair on his head, which was often a subject of light hearted humor in a balding population, namely fellow mechanics moving up in age...
I miss him and I pray for him and all his loving family and friends. Thanks Jim for what you were.
