

John A. Trotter, 99, of Barnegat, NJ, passed away on Friday July 17, 2026. He was born on June 18, 1927 and raised in Brooklyn, NY. His family moved to NJ, where he attended East Rutherford High School. John served in the United States Navy and is a WW II veteran.
Subsequently, he became a police officer in East Rutherford, NJ where he retired as a Sargent after 30 years. Upon retirement, John relocated to Barnegat in 1988, then to Fort Myers, FL in 1997 before settling back to Barnegat in 2012.
He was an avid New York football Giants and Brooklyn/LA Dodgers fan.
He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy of 46 years and his second wife, Jean of 16 years, four brothers, Vincent, Joseph, Anthony, Frank, and one sister, Theresa.
John is survived by his daughters Linda Bernal and husband Aldo, Christine Lampmann and husband William, five grandchildren, Jaime and husband Brian, Scott and wife Diane, Meredith and husband Justin, Nicholas, and Christina, and six great-grandchildren Avery, Keira, Olivia, Lucas, Harrison, and Elaina.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2026 from 4-8pm at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral home in Manahawkin. Cremation will be private.
