Mark Joseph Schwing of West Creek passed away Saturday January 2nd, 2021 from complications with COVID-19.

Mark was born October 4, 1945 in Manhattan and raised by his parents Joseph Schwing Sr. & Marilyn (nee Catherine). He was brother to Michael (dec. 2005) Thomas and Joseph. Mark grew up in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ where he graduated Hasbrouck Heights High School Class of 1963. He was voted Best Looking of his graduating class and was a star of the varsity football team. Veteran of the Vietnam War, Mark attained the rank of Specialist and served with the US Army Riverine Service from '66-'67. As a Sergeant First Class in the New Jersey National Guard, Mark retired in 2005 having served his country for over 20 years.

Living 40+ years in Ocean County Mark was an avid outdoor sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating as well as being a motorcycle enthusiast. Mark's love of the outdoors led him to build a log cabin by hand on a few acres of land in West Creek with the help of his brothers and a few close friends. Mark enjoyed living among nature with his numerous pets including dogs, cats and birds all while cruising his property on his ATV exploring nature around him. Mark enjoyed fishing for flounder in the Barnegat Bay, as much he did hunting for deer in the woods around his cabin.

Mark was an Iron Worker and welder for a large part of his life who participated in projects on many famous places including the Outerbridge Crossing where he suffered a near fatal accident in 1988. Despite his resulting injuries Mark continued his career as a welder and could be found providing this service for local businesses in Manahawkin and the surrounding area to include work on the famous Barnegat Lighthouse on Long Beach Island.

A loving father, Mark is survived by son Christopher Schwing and daughter Darla Ferdinand (nee Schwing) granddaughters Leah, Alyssa and Arielle and joins son Mark Anthony (dec. 2008) in heaven. We were very close in Viet Nam. I remember . Mark being German and I Jewish. I didn’t tolerate any biased remarks about anyone. Well neither did Mark. After he knocked a guy on the ground. He would say . Next time you won’t get up.
After loosing touch for about fifteen years . My wife said she thought she located Mark. I called.”Mark? He said Fogel is that you.
Saw him and Christopher about a year ago.
If there was ever a stand up guy, it was Mark Schwing. Will miss him dearly.

It honestly breaks my heart to hear about Marks passing. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I have had contact with him the last few months on FB because we went through radiation around the same time so I would check in on him every once in a while. May he Rest In Peace with Micheal and his his dad, he was always so sweet! I am still recovering from my second surgery so please know I am there, just can’t be physically. All my love to the family Kelly Kemp Rhodes xoxo
