Patrick Humphrey Harrington

April 27, 1989December 22, 2020

Patrick H. Harrington, aged 31, of Ship Bottom passed away on December 22, 2020 at the Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin.

Patrick is survived by his parents, James and Denise (Adair), a sister, Kathleen Henderson (Taylor), and brothers Dennis and Reilly Harrington, as well as a nephew Colin Henderson. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, James and Sally Harrington of Cranford, NJ. He was pre-deceased by his maternal grandparents, Barry and Patricia Adair of Ship Bottom. Patrick was fortunate to have many aunts, uncles and cousins in his life who will miss him dearly.

A 2007 graduate of Southern Regional High School, Pat also earned his Associates Degree from Ocean County College.

Patrick was a beloved member of the Long Beach Island surfing community and an annual participant in the Jetty Clam Jam, reaching the finals in 2011. No matter which round was his last, he loved each moment of the day. He checked the waves each and every day, happy to see the ocean but happiest when there were waves.

He spent many summers as a member of the Ship Bottom Beach Patrol before being employed at Country Corner Farm Market, a family business. He spent many of his winter months traveling for surf and snowboard adventures with some of his loyal tribe and always shared stories of the trips.

Patrick was an avid fan of all sports and spent many fall weekends rooting for his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish and New York Giants. Pat always found time to see his favorite bands with friends at venues big or small.

Pat showed his true strength and character when he was diagnosed with lymphoma in June 2019. He refused to let his diagnosis define him and he worked to get well each and every day. But his gentle manner and willingness to befriend people was truly his legacy and his diverse cross-section of friends is certainly testament to that.

A visitation will be held at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A Mass will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ with Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Manahawkin, NJ

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Jetty Rock Foundation or David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation. Both these organizations were instrumental in providing emotional and financial support for Patrick and his family. We are very grateful for them.

As an early follower of the Jetty Life brand, Patrick was rarely seen not sporting something Jetty. If you are able to attend services, please feel free to dress in your best P$ style.

I met Pat as he was on the Southern Regional Surf Team. You could always count on Pat to be at every meet. He loved to participate. It was great to have him on the team.
Later, I knew Pat as a co-worker. He would tell of his wonderful adventures in Hawaii, Bali, etc. It was always great to hear him talk about his surf trips. He lived his dreams of surfing the earth.
Pat, You will really be missed. I know you are up there enjoying the endless waves,

Pat was such a gentle, loving, kind of guy. He was super personable, kind and genuine. I attended a wedding with him and you could tell that he owned that place. He was the life of the party. He cared about each and everyone of his cousins. He loved surfing and even when he was diagnosed with cancer, that didn't stop him. He was so incredibly funny. If you knew that Pat was in the room, you knew you were in for a treat. He never let his medical conditions sour his attitude. He went through so much and yet it never stopped him from smiling. He loved the water and I can feel his soul when I'm surrounded by water. I know he is no longer hurting. Heavens gained another precious soul.
Love you forever,
Keira Harrington

What a pleasure it was to be in the presence of Patrick! His kind heart and genuine warm personality always brightened up the day.
Through the friendship of Brian and Dennis, we got to know Pat. What a bonus that was! Many fun times were spent with all of you and the Warrens at sporting activities, school functions, and on Gajewski Lane. Patrick will always be in our hearts, as well as, all the Harringtons. Prayers, strength, and love to all of you.

Patty, as we Harringtons called him, was the guy you always hoped to run into in Country Corner. He always made time to let you know what was going on, how everyone was doing and made you feel at home. He and Dennis made my family in Harvey Cedars laugh so many times growing up it hurts to think about it.

But he's in peace and heaven now, catching waves and waiting for us all to join him.

What a remarkable young man and community that raised him in
Manahawkin and Ship Bottom. What an honor to have known him.

Mark and I are so very sorry for your tragic loss. P$ was such a presence...I have many fond memories of him but mostly I will remember how he ALWAYS greeted Mark and I the second he saw us at the bay concerts...He always made time to come and chat with us whenever he saw us...either at the bay, at the beach, at a lifeguard competition and always at the Market! I love how my girls loved him. They have so many great fun memories of their time with him over the years. He will be truly be missed by all of us Ullingers. XOXO

Denise and Jim, I am so sorry to learn of the loss of your son, Patrick. I have diligently followed his valiant struggle over this past year. He seemed to me to be an outstanding individual who lived a full life and never gave up. All of we Adairs (and Harringtons too I am sure) know something about that, now don’t we, including particularly lifeguarding and surfing. He surely was an exemplary son for all of us to follow. Denise, now his spirit is with those of your beloved dad, Barry, and mother, Pat. Be assured they welcomed him with loving arms and strong embrace into God’s heaven.
