Susan Napoli

Susan was born and raised in Jersey City, and met her husband Leonard while working in New York City on East 42nd Street at the Lincoln Building. Susan was finishing school and working as a bookkeeper when she met Leonard who was working in the mailroom. Leonard was unfortunately let go from his position, and found himself sitting in Bryant Park looking through the wanted ads, when Susan approached him in the park; she had stood up for him, ultimately losing her job as well! Even though they had different personalities, they balanced each other so well with Leonard being the “glass half full” to Susan’s “glass half empty”. They married in 1964 and went on to have two sons, Stephen and David, who they both took much pride in educating and raising, with David going on to graduate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, his undergraduate degree, and PHD studies.

Susan was the PTA president and a teacher’s aid, getting to spend as much time as possible with her boys. She went on to spend 20 years in the records department at the North Bergen police department, enjoying her time as the “mom bus” for her children. She was a fiercely loyal wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.

She was predeceased by her son Stephen Phillip in 1987, her parents Frank and Mildred Scura, sister Frances, brother in law Jim McMains, and her beloved dog Holly.

Susan is survived by her husband of 62 years Leonard, son David and wife Melanie, grandsons Devon and Josh, nephew Jim McMains and wife Maggie, and niece Judith Cruz and husband George.

Visitation will be held at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home in Manahawkin on Monday September 28, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Pines in Manahawkin from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Fairview.
