

Born in Lismore, West Virginia, Nick left home at 17 to join the Navy to fight in the Vietnam war. He was stationed on the USS Wasp. After leaving the Navy, he settled in Ocean County, New Jersey where he joined the Toms River police force for 10 years. After serving as a police officer, he became an electrician and opened his own business, Grant Electric which he kept until 2008. He then became an electrical inspector and worked on Long Beach Island and in Waretown until 2018 when he had his first stroke that forced retirement.
Nick met his wife Barbara in 2001. They married in 2003.He enjoyed woodworking and painting and family get togethers.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Basil and Pauline Nichols and his sister Lyn Ford.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Barbara and children Grant Nichols (Tammy), Michael Diodata (Natasha),
Dana Diodata, Jennifer Diodata, and grandchildren Jonathan Maddie), Brendan (Mikaela), Jack, Cooper, Delaney, Matthew, and Kiley, his sister, Kay, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be private and is under the care of Thomas L Shinn Funeral Home. A Veterans burial will take place later in the summer.
