After graduating from Memorial High School, Jim served in the United States Army, graduating from the U.S. Army Medical Department’s Veterinary Specialist Program in December 1972. He attained the rank of Specialist Four (SP4) and was honorably discharged in August 1975.
Following his military service, Jim worked for several years at Osram Sylvania in Manchester while attending hairdressing school. After graduating, he worked at several Manchester salons before opening his own salon, where he continued his career until retirement.
Jim had a lifelong love of animals and shared his home with many beloved pets over the years. His parrot, Toby, was a special companion and often joined him on his travels. Jim also enjoyed interior decorating and cooking, preparing roasts, soups, and other hearty dishes, particularly earlier in his life.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert Edward Nye, in 1960, and his mother, Alice Mary Nye, in 2002.
Jim is survived by his brother, Bruce Robert Nye, and his wife, Micky; his nephews, Jason Nye, Jesse Nye and his wife, Janice, and Keith Nye and his wife, Bianka; his four great-nephews, André, Brandon, Tristan, and Kevin; and his great-niece, Brianna. He is also survived by Janet Lemus, Brandon’s mother and a cherished member of the Nye family.
A service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, New Hampshire. Details will be announced when arrangements are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jim’s memory to the New Hampshire SPCA or the ASPCA, honoring his lifelong love of animals.
