Roger Andre Proulx, 76, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25th 2022 after a period of declining health. Born on June 27, 1945 in Manchester, he was the son of the late Cleophas and Antoinette Proulx (Lafond).
Roger was a lifelong resident and was educated in the Catholic School System. He met his wife Sandra when he was 16 (she was just 14), and what started as a teenage romance blossomed into a loving marriage of nearly 56 years. They were each other’s best friend, and they were lost without one another. They were always a big hit at any family wedding. They surprised many guests by dancing the jitterbug to the Glen Miller Band’s “In the Mood”, until he was no longer able to remember all of the steps.
He worked for International Paper in town for 19 years, then went on to work for Catholic Charities of NH and St. Theresa's Manor before his retirement in 2011. While employed at St. Theresa’s Manor, he was voted to receive the New Hampshire Healthcare Association Employee Recognition award for always being willing to help wherever he was needed, and his consistent being kind and courteous treatment of the residents.
He was a parishioner of St. Anne-St. Augustin Parish where he served as a greeter and usher, and he was a very active member within the Church community. He and Sandra were recognized for all that they had done for sponsoring the first wave of African immigrants, of whom they became godparents to some of their children. In 2013 they were awarded the Granite State Organizing Project Micah award.
He loved rooting for his favorite MLB team, the Boston Red Sox, no matter what kind of season they were having. He was an avid fisherman, he loved the beach, and enjoyed going to see the sandcastles every year for his birthday followed by the traditional birthday dinner at Brown’s seafood. He was always behind the camera capturing many candid moments of the family, and enjoyed listening to music especially his favorites the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Remembered as one to “never complain” and “Mr. Fix it”, he worked hard for his family and enjoyed spending time with his loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Sandra Proulx (Bean); daughter Cynthia Sanborn and her husband Matthew of Manchester; son Russell Proulx and his wife Ruth Milena Machado of Oviedo, FL; adopted daughter Shelby Bailey and her husband Clarke of Manchester; sister in law Marguerite Joyce of Manchester; brother Arthur Proulx and his wife Pauline of Manchester; grandchildren Nicole Sanborn of Manchester and Elis Morett of Oviedo, FL; adopted grandchildren Nicholas Gruber of Merrimack; Nathan Gruber of Manchester; Violet Williams and her husband Dustin of Maryland; many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Proulx in 2016 and sister Evelyn Radwin in 1957.
A visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Monday, April 4th at McHugh Funeral Home located at 283 Hanover St, Manchester. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Tuesday, April 5th at St. Anne-St. Augustin Parish located at 382 Beech St, Manchester.
