

MARBLEHEAD - Bruce Weston, 91, of Elm St., Marblehead MA died at home after a short illness on April 10, 2021. Born Feb. 10, 1930 to Faith (Borton) and Harold Weston in Paris, France. Married over 40 years to Cheryl Boots. Survivors include his sister Barbara (Weston) Foster, children Laura Weston of Palm Harbor, FL, David and Bonita (Kearns) Weston of Columbia, MO, and Sarah Weston and Paul Dettorre of Durham, NC along with grandchildren Franziska Weston, Samuel and Starr Weston, Glorya Weston, Isaac Weston, and Hannah DiGregorio. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Dina (Weston) Sudduth, and his first wife Charlotte (Cole) Weston. Weston was a proud 1953 graduate of Carleton College.
He worked for the New York Times and the Rockefeller Center before serving in the U.S. Army in Seoul, Korea as an SP- 4 in communications. He returned to Carlton where he began his career in publications and development work, primarily for colleges and universities. He received the NSFRE outstanding publications award. His career ladder led from Carleton including Northwestern, Stephens College (MO), Alfred University, Ohio State University, and Salem State.
After retirement, he drove Michaud Bus Co. school runs to Essex Ag & Tech and Shore Country Day. A philanthropist as well as a fund-raiser, Weston made significant donations to Stephens College, Carleton College, and St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Marblehead, MA. An active member of St. Stephen’s, he served on committees, sang in the choir, was lay reader, and loved coffee hour (two blue packets, please). Many children saw him as Santa Claus at Frog Lane Fair. Others in the community recall his stirring readings for the St. Stephen’s Christmas Festival.
