November 11, 1940October 16, 2020

David Ayles, age 79, of Marblehead, MA, and Green Valley, AZ, passed away peacefully in his home in Marblehead on October 16th. He leaves behind his loving wife of 21 years, Charlotte Cate Ayles. David was born in Lynn, MA, in 1940, to the late Wilford and Gertrude Ayles. He was an esteemed Manufacturing Planner at General Electric in Lynn, MA, for over 40 years. David was loved for his positive disposition, gentle nature, and kindness. He was very inquisitive and loved having long conversations with friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. His greatest joys came from his family and friends. He enjoyed many activities throughout his life, including hockey, golf, sailing, birding, kayaking, and reading historical novels. He went on many trips to Europe, especially France, where he developed a passion for collecting and enjoying fine wines, which gave him great pleasure to share with friends. Along with his wife, Charlotte, he is survived by his brother, Paul Ayles, and his wife Kathy of Meredith, NH; his three children, whom he shared with his former spouse, Louise (Ayles) Condon: Debra Emerson and her husband Kris of Hampstead, NH; Kerri Lynch and her husband Larry of Plymouth, MA; and Steven Ayles and his fiancé Jacqui Kiley of Plaistow, NH. He was the loving grandfather of five grandchildren: Haley, Mina, & Fiona Ayles, and Ethan & Evan Emerson. David became a much-loved addition to Charlotte’s family as stepfather to Jennifer Nyberg and her husband, Andy; Jarret Pearl and his wife Lisa; and Ariana Selby, and her husband Joe. He was the adored “Pop David” of Maya, Adam & Serena Nyberg, Solana & Konik Pearl, and Jackson, Talia & Nathan Selby. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.

Charlotte and the Ayles family, I’m deeply saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. I worked in the GE for many years with Dave and he would always go out of his way to help anyone. I had the pleasure of golfing with him and meeting him for lunch to just catch up with each other. I’ll never forget his sense of humor and always having a smile. Prayers and condolences.
Rest In Peace Dave

Dave was a wonderful coworker who I missed greatly after he retired. A very competent planner and someone who was just a lot of fun to work with, or just talk with. And really, I thought he was 10 years younger. My condolences to his family.

David was a wonderful friend. He would give you the shirt off his back if needed. His strong character and love of people has endeared him to everyone. A great travel mate and wine lover.
We will miss him terribly and our condolences to Charlotte and his family.

David was one of the best persons I’ve ever known. A best friend who was always there for his friends. David held true to his beliefs, but always listened to an opposing view and still loved you.

David, you’ve left us too soon. I was so looking forward to more travel with you. The fun that we all had. More dinners. Just more.

I hope you find your friends where you’ve traveled to. Down here you will be greatly missed. Love you David.
