
David Ross, 88, who lived in Marblehead for over 45 years, passed away at Brooksby Village Retirement Community in Peabody of natural causes. Mr. Ross was predeceased by his wife Lydia Geraldine (Scola) Ross and his son Jeffery David Ross.
Mr. Ross was born in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of the late Henry and Frieda. He attended Princeton University and the University of Delaware where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also attended Syracuse University where he earned a Masters Degree in Engineering Administration.
During World War II, he enlisted in the Army Specialized Training Program. He was a decorated non-commissioned officer of the 415th Infantry Regiment, 104th Infantry (Timberwolf) Division. He served in the front lines in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war he was a member of the National Timberwolf Association as well as the American Legion.
Mr. Ross was an engineering manager for RCA, General Tire, General Electric and Gillette Companies. While employed by the various companies he lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana and Massachusetts. He taught courses in industrial experimentation and quality control systems at graduate and undergraduate levels at Syracuse University, Steven's Institute of Technology and Northeastern University.
After retiring from Gillette in 1988, he was a management consultant with an office in Salem, MA. He continued to provide consulting services until the mid nineties.
Mr. Ross was a member of several engineering, honorary and philanthropic organizations, and was a Professional Engineer, State of Massachusetts.
He is survived by a niece, Wendy Cohen of CA.
A graveside service will be held in Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive, Marblehead on Friday, September 17 at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
