

John R. “Dick” Russell, 92, a life-long resident of Marblehead, died November 17, 2010 in Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Anne J. (Conroy) Russell with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Jack W. and Mary Ethel (Longton) Russell.
Dick was a graduate of Marblehead High School, Class of 1936. He served 32 years on the Marblehead Police Force, retiring as Police Chief. He was a veteran and Bronze Star winner serving with the Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He also worked for Eastern Mass Bus and Continental Airlines.
He leaves a son, Richard Russell of Marblehead; a daughter, Nancy Auld and her husband Jack; a granddaughter, Maryanne all of Sharon; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late William Pickett.
A funeral service will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street. Marblehead on Monday, November 22 at 11AM. Burial with honors to follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from4-7PM. Donations may be made in Dick’s memory to the charity of your choice.
