

MARBLEHEAD – James William Devine, Jr., 92, a lifelong resident of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3rd. Jim was the devoted husband of the late Nancy (Roderick) Devine, with whom he shared over 37 years of marriage until her passing on August 29, 2024.
Jim was the loving father of Bonnie and her husband, James Sitomer and the late Mark Devine; stepfather of Debra McNiff and her husband Edward, Donna Doucette and partner Gary Seaton, John Carroll and his wife Mary, Jeffrey L. Carroll, Thomas A. Carroll, and Elyse Carroll; the brother of the late Barbara Lunt and the late Doris Bartlett; the grandfather of Rachel (Sitomer) Barclay and her husband Oliver, Lynda Styles, Stacey Beshers, Nathan McNiff, Derek Doucette and Ashley Carroll and their families, including five great-grandchildren; Marcus, Natalie, Liam, Rory, Wesley, Lillian and Edie and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his former wife, “Bonnie’s mom,” Mary (Wadsworth) Williams.
Born January 3, 1933, in Marblehead, he was educated in Marblehead, graduated from Marblehead High School with the Class of 1951 and attended UMASS Amherst. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Air Force. He later became a Fire Fighter and worked for the Town of Marblehead for over 31_ years until his retirement.
Jim loved golfing, skiing and visiting with family and friends at his vacation home in Madison, NH.
Jim was a wonderful friend and host and could tell a story like no other. He will be sadly missed by all of his family, friends and neighbors.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 22nd at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm Street. A Graveside Service will follow on Friday, August 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
