Jean A. (Eustis) Cleary, 84, a lifelong “Marbleheader”, passed away peacefully at the Devereux House on January 14, 2012. Jean was the loving wife of Donald R. Cleary with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Eleanor (Oliver) Eustis.
Jean was a graduate of Marblehead High School and was crowned Ms. Marblehead in 1944. Upon graduation she went to work for Pan American Airlines in New York City. She and her husband had the pleasure of spending many winters at their home in Sarasota, Florida and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, Asia and Africa.
Jean’s happiest moments were spent with her family. She was a most loving, caring person who enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren; she was a friend to all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by her loving family - daughter, Dianne Monahan of Biltmore Lake, NC and three cherished granddaughters - Kristen and husband Andrew Miller and their children Rubin, August and Gunnar of St. Paul, MN; Keryn and husband Andrew Schneider of Atlanta, GA and Kaleigh Monahan of Sullivan’s Island, SC. She was also the mother of the late Stephen R. Cleary, who passed away last January, and whose remains will be buried with her. Other surviving family members include sister-in-law, Jean Caso, a nephew, a niece and four cousins.
