SWAMPSCOTT & SALEM - John Asa DeCamp III “Jack”, a devoted husband, adoring father and grandfather, loving brother-in-law and generous friend, died peacefully with his children by his side on Saturday July 2, 2022 following a battle with cancer. He was 77 years young.
Born in 1944, Jack grew up in Bedford and lived in Swampscott while raising his children, Nancy Gillis of Beverly and John DeCamp of Nahant with his beloved wife Margaret. During his years in Swampscott, Jack worked in Boston as a commercial real estate lender, coached town soccer, volunteered on various committees and formed many friendships that would last his lifetime. Jack and Margaret moved to Maine for the last 15 years of their working years, staying active with outdoor activities such as skiing, boating and golf. When Jack & Margaret retired, they returned to the North Shore in Salem to be close to friends and family and especially their grandkids, Collin & Kaylee Gillis and Casey DeCamp. Jack lost Margaret, the love of his life, in 2017. Life alone wasn't easy, but Jack remained engaged with his kids and grandkids, attending a baseball game or delivering a birthday surprise.
We are heartbroken and have foregone hosting any formal services. A 'Celebration of Life' will be held on, Sunday, July 17th from 3-6pm at the Nahant Country Club. All who would like to remember Jack are welcome to join.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice. There are many worthy causes, including the fight against cancer. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at eustisandcornellfuneralhome.com for the DeCamp family.
