After a lengthy illness, John E. Grady, "Johnny," passed February 16th surrounded by family, friends, and his favorite nurse Brianna. He fought long and hard to survive, but his body was too sick in the end.
Johnny spent his early years living in Brighton before his family moved to Hyannis. He graduated from Barnstable High School in 1976. His love of drumming was fine-tuned at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and he could be seen at any of the various rock clubs playing in local bands. His most successful band was The 360s, which put out three albums (two on Link Records and one on RCA Records) in the early '90s and toured throughout Europe and the US.
When he put his rock and roll dreams behind him, he attended BU and became a network engineer using his love of numbers and tech to have a second successful career. His last employer was Suffolk University, where he was doing cyber security and loved it. He always said he enjoyed his coworkers, which made his job fun and exciting. Johnny loved all Boston sports, but his favorite was the Patriots; spending endless Sundays screaming and cheering to the television. Weekends were spent golfing or making his famous wings for hungry friends. Johnny would always say the most important ingredient was love. He loved spending time with friends who loved and laughed at his quirky jokes and hungrily ate his famous BBQ pork.
Johnny's greatest love was his three children, Sean, Jack, and Georgia. He is also survived by his mother, Joan Barton; sisters, Susan Allain and Maureen Carrita; and brothers, Ed and Michael Grady; a nephew and several nieces and is predeceased by his father, John Grady, and sister, Joan Pettiglio.
Johnny always believed in giving back, so if you like, donate to your favorite charity for him. John
