John Alden Tirrell, 87, of Marblehead, Mass. died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Mr. Tirrell was CEO and a founder of Marine Systems Corporation, a marine engineering firm incorporated in Boston, MA in 1973.

Mr. Tirrell was born in Saugus, MA in 1925, the son of James and Beatrice (Bragg) Tirrell. Mr. Tirrell was a disabled veteran. During WWII, he served in Europe in the US Army’s 34th Infantry Division and earned a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and an Expert Rifle SS Carbine Badge.

After the war, he attended Boston University, was a member of the BU Crew, and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Physics. He later became a Registered Professional Engineer. After being employed at GE in Lynn, MA, where he met his wife Audrey L. Tracey, of Marblehead, he worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard from 1954 until it closed in 1973. Marine Systems Corporation was launched that year and has grown to include branches in San Diego, CA, Norfolk, VA and Panama City Beach, FL.

He was the brother of the late James Tirrell of Lynnfield, Charles Tirrell of Nahant, and Beatrice Sweeney of Lynn, MA. He is survived by his loving family including his wife Audrey, with whom he had celebrated over 60 years of marriage, in addition to four daughters and their families including Loretta Bogosian and her husband Zaven Bogosian, Tracy Tirrell and her husband Scott Snow, Cynthia Tirrell-Norton and her husband Edward Norton and Mary Beth Tirrell, all of Marblehead. He is also survived by his grandchildren John-Pietro Valentini and his wife Heidi Valentini, of Marblehead, Ashley Valentini, of Boston, and Adam and Aliza Bogosian, Luke and Liam Norton and Phaedra Tirrell, all of Marblehead. Mr. Tirrell is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Eustis Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Monday April 1st from 12-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans @, or P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.

Dear Audrey and Family,
I was sad to read about John's passing. Though I did not know him as well as I did you and some of the girls, I do remember that he seemed like a calm and centered person who loved his wife and family.

To the entire Tirrell family My Deepest Heartfelt Sympathy on the loss of John I will always remember him as a soft spoken wonderful kind man. I enjoyed all of the years I spent working with all of MSC.
John's love of his job but most of all this love of family will remain with me for a life time.
He will be missed by many.
