MARBLEHEAD - LeMoyne "Roger" Plauché passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts, after a long and courageous journey through life's many challenges. He was 86 years old.
Roger was born in Marietta, Ohio, in 1939, the third of five Plauché brothers. He grew up in Parkersburg, West Virginia, where he attended Parkersburg High School. He went on to study at Ohio University in Athens, where he met the love of his life, Sally Baughman, on a blind date arranged by one of his Beta Theta Pi fraternity brothers. Roger and Sally were married on August 27, 1960, during their senior year of college beginning 65 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, partnership, and adventure.
In 1961, Roger completed Ohio University's ROTC program and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. He was deployed to Korea, where he served with distinction as a First Lieutenant and Platoon Commander, an experience that shaped his leadership philosophy and instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, purpose, and national pride.
After returning from military service, Roger earned his MBA from The Ohio State University and embarked on a successful self-proclaimed "Corporate Gypsy" career in the textile manufacturing industry. His work took the family to communities across the Eastern United States, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, and Arkansas.
In 1994, Roger retired from corporate life, and he and Sally began their next chapter as proprietors of SprayCliff on the Ocean, a bed and breakfast in Marblehead, Massachusetts. For a decade, they welcomed guests near and far, creating a warm, inviting place that reflected Roger's boundless work ethic, love of the ocean, and natural gift for conversation. During this time, Roger served on the boards of the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce and the Marblehead Counseling Center and volunteered with Hospice of the North Shore-now the Kaplan Family Hospice House.
For 21 years, Roger and Sally wintered in Sedona, Arizona, where they found community, happiness, and adventure among the red rocks, canyons, and cactus. Roger was an active volunteer at Red Rock State Park and spent his days hiking, Jeeping, playing tennis, and traveling with friends. They eventually returned full-time to Marblehead, where they settled into Lee Loft, their beloved harbor-front home and a cherished gathering place for their children, grandchildren, extended family, and close friends. Roger found deep joy in sitting on the deck, surrounded by loved ones, overlooking the harbor he fondly called his "beautiful front yard."
Roger is predeceased by his parents, LeMoyne and Vivian Plauché, and by his brothers Edward, Jack, Michael, and Stephen, all of Parkersburg, West Virginia. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sally, and their three children; Marc Plauché of Tamworth, New Hampshire, and his wife Kirsten; his daughter Maddie and son Chris with the late Nancy Floccher Plauché; and Chris's wife Sydney and their son Jameson (a 10th-generation Plauché); Matthew Plauché and his wife Krisha of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and their daughters Chantal and Camille; Ali Plauché Drayer and her husband Matt of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and their children Annabelle and Jackson.
Roger's legacy lives on in the love he shared, the values he modeled, and the family he cherished.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization with a mission close to his heart.
Service Information: Private family burial at Waterside Cemetery. A Celebration of life for Roger will be held at a later date.
