

Mrs. Louise G. (Putnam) Girard, age 89, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2012. She was the wife of the late George E. Girard, retired Chief of the Marblehead Police Department.
A true “Marbleheader”, Louise was born and educated in Marblehead. The daughter of Gertrude (Wright) Putnam and J. Gardner Putnam, Louise was born on May 11, 1922. She worked at the Lynn District Court for 17 years and retired in 1987.
Louise was devoted to her children and later her grandchildren, and was always active in her children’s activities. While Louise loved to travel, and enjoyed her time on trips to Florida and on many cruises, there was no place she would rather be than her home in Marblehead. Louise enjoyed staying active, whether it was playing golf, tennis or skiing, or joining a group of friends for a “night out”.
Louise will be greatly missed by a daughter Patricia Cohen and her husband Irwin (grandchildren Mark Cohen and Mindy Gyllenborg and her husband Eric and great-grandchildren Connor and Nina Gyllenborg) and a son David Fallon and his wife Bonnie (step-grandchild Sean Kelley). She also is survived by three stepchildren Marjorie Orne and her husband Frank, George Girard, Jr. and his wife Galina, and Richard Girard and his wife Gloria, eight step-grandchildren Stephen, Kristin, Sarah, Michael, Jennifer, Richard, Robert and Amy, a sister-in-law Alyce Putnam, and three nieces Carol Cassidy, Cynthia Rockett and Betsy Caswell. She was the sister of the late Madison Putnam and Auville Putnam.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13th. at 11 AM in the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home 142 Elm Street, Marblehead. A Visitation will be held on Friday from 10-11 AM, prior to the service. Burial in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
