Peter Wright, age 69 of Marblehead, leaves his wife, Ruth Ferguson, and their son, James Wright of Brooklyn, NY. Son of the late Foster and Mildred (Gendron) Wright, and Brother of Charlotte Powers of Quincy and Foster Wright of Wayland. He leaves his Sister-in-Law Susan Wright, his Sister-in-Law Nancy Fernandez-Mills, and his Brother-in-Law Mark Mills, and was pre-deceased by his Brother-in-Law John Powers. Peter will also be remembered by his many Nieces, Nephews, Grand-Nieces, and Grand-Nephews.
Peter grew up in Rye, NH, graduated from Boston University, and was pursuing a Ph.D. at Harvard when then-Sen. George McGovern called him, seeking his support and involvement in the 1972 New Hampshire Democratic Presidential primary. From that point on, Peter dedicated his life to progressive politics – first as a campaign organizer and ultimately through his career as the Director of Legislation, Political Action and Communications for AFSCME Council 93. Peter loved living near the ocean, gardening in his yard, enjoying fine wines and cigars, and talking politics and policy with anyone who was interested.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no wake or funeral service. A gathering for Peter’s family and friends will be held at a later date.
